I don't think I said that. Having a sub-3.00 ERA, yes. And I was higher on Wainwright going into this season than most. Search his name in Leftovers and there was quite the disparity in viewpoints on Adam for 2008. Either way, the entire staff is playing over their heads.

Well through the first month the team has done fairly well. Clearly, as this thread has shown, the Cards will not keep up this pace and are playing over their heads. But I think it's not outta the question a .500 record is possible now. The Cards have to go 63-70 the rest of the way for a .500 record, and that's with Clement and Carpenter coming back at some point...

While some players have been performing well above average, some aren't quite up to their marks yet. Glaus has been doing fine so far, but still below expected slugging %.. The Outfield is performing extradorinarily well, but .800+ OPS from Ankiel and Duncan isn't out of the question. Starting pitchingwise, only Lohse is performing way out of expectations.

I'm not gonna argue this right now this is a playoff team, but I'm starting to believe a .500 finish is a possibility.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

They won more games in April than any other Cardinal team ever.

I think "fairly well" is a bit of an understatement. :-b

the longer the team hangs around the top of the division the more likely they may be to actually strenghten the team at the trade deadline.

I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but we don't have to assume that the team as it stands now is the team that will be playing at the end of the year. If the overachievers can last long enough for the Cards to replace them with proven guys via trade there may not be a regression to the mean.

The Cardinals are good. We have a lot of people in denial, it appears.
