Woody isn't goody

Just so you guys know, the Cardinals just admitted that Woody Williams has elbow tendinitis and they don't know when he'll begin to participate in spring training.

Buyer beware.

Great, here we go again...they can't seem to keep their pitchers healthy any more.

Yeah, the Cardinals might have had the worse luck with pitchers over the past few years than any other team considering the talent they've had forced on the DL.

Isringhausen(DL)
Esteban Yan (sucked)
Tomko (schizophrenic)
Stephenson (sucked)
Hermanson (sucked, DL)
Ankiel (who the hell knows)
Bud Smith (threw a no-hitter, then sucked, then traded)
Chuck Finley (played one good season, then became greedy)
Williams (DL)
Simontacchi (great rookie season, then sucked)
Kline (love him to death, but he had head problems last year)
Morris (overused)
Calero (just started to get decent, then DL)
Name a set-up man (sucked or DL)

Please God, let Carpenter play a full year.

That really hurts because he was going very late in most drafts I had seen and I thought he would be a very good pick.

I also thought woody was being overlooked and would've been a good late round pick. If he spends an extended amont of time on the DL that would really hurt the Cards who ar eplaying in a tough division and need all the pitching help they can get.

Definitely not good news. I was looking forward to snatching him up late again this year in my leagues (except the one where DHC grabbed him first. ).

Hate to say I told you so but I told you so.

The reason behind the Cards pitcher problems is Tony La Russa and Dave Duncan. They have absolutely thrashed Woody since he came over from the Padres like they thrash all of their starters.

It's easy to cast the first stone though. With the horrid state of the Cardinal's bullpen last year, LaRussa and Duncan were forced to use their starters much longer than they should have.

I watched all the Cards' games, and it was painful, but when you're up 2-1 in the seventh inning, and your bullpen has an ERA somewhere around 7 or 8, you leave your guy in there and pray he can finish the game.
