WELCOME!
The Blake Street Bombers a.k.a. the Colorado Rockies return to Coors Field this year with a vengence having virtually replaced half the team with very promising players. Gone are the likes of Juan Pierre and Mike Hampton. New for 2003 are Pablo Ozuna, Chris Stynes, Charles Johnson, Jose Hernandez, Preston Wilson, and Steve Reed, an original Rockie. This will make it very unlikely for the Rockies to post identical numbers as they did in the 2001-2002 seasons (73-89). The Rockies also stand a very good chance of being the most improved team for 2003.
With the attendance numbers falling off sharply at Coors Field, it was painfully obvious that the Rockies must do something to regenerate fan interest. Nobody likes a loser...We only feel sorry for them (see the Cubs forum). Through bad trades and free agency, we've lost fan favorites such as Dante Bichette, Andres Gallarraga, Vinney Castilla, and Eric Young who lead off the Rockies existance with an historic home run in his first at bat. Through good trades, we now have contention as well as the all important fan attendance. Seeing as baseball is now a business probably more than a sport, it only made wise business sense to change half the team. After all, what have we got to lose?
With really nowhere to go but up, the Rockies will actually be in contention for the wild wild western division barring injury. Once the head office finally realizes that the curveball doesn't but the fastball and sinker do, dreams of playoff action and beyond won't seem so unlikely. In fact, it would be a distinct possiblilty within the next 2-3 years if all goes to plan.
Consider the following*:
♠ Ozuna
♠ Stynes
♠ Helton
♠ Walker
♠ Payton
♠ Wilson
♠ Hernandez
♠ Johnson
♠ Pitcher
*unofficial lineup
Yes...2003 may just hold the key to improving further still. There's no way...repeat...no way the Rockies can match their dismal record of the past two years.
Now, let's get out there and prove to the world that the greatest hitting ballpark now has some viable contenders.
Let's Rock!
