Someone please explain to me why they show pitcher's innings as decimals when that is incorrect? If a pitcher throws 7 1/3 innings, it shows it as 7.1 innings, when in fact in is 7.333 (repeating of course) innings.

I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking it's to keep track of how many outs they've recorded.

I don't think it was ever intended to represent a real fraction in the sense that it is a division problem.

I'm going to say because some baseball players don't know how to do fractions and decimals. Heck, some fans, don't.
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.

learn something new everyday.
But what do they do for stock quotes? Why wouldn't they just use the decimal? Surely the same problem came with the financial pages.

If you're trying to convert the 7.1 to 22 outs this works: =((INT(A1)*3)+(((A1-(INT(A1)))*10))) You can then do an =(ER/OUTS)*27 to get ERA and an =((BB+H)/OUTS)*3 to get WHIP. I think. Edit - The 7.1 will need to be in cell A1, of course...
