The greatest opening day hitter ever?

Postby Jimbo OZ » Tue Apr 01, 2008 5:46 am

Check out these opening day stats over the past four years for one player

AB Hits HR Runs RBIs AVE OPS
19 11 5 8 10 0.579 2.13

Who is this beast that everyone must own for one day only?

Xavier Nady

I found it funny that this guy continues to rake opening day, gets added a heap by newbie players and then stinks from then on. Nice numbers though.

All Japanese Players
It seems like Kaz, Fukudome, Hideki, Ichiro, Agbayani, and Shinjo all broke out on opening day. Kaz homered in the first at-bat of the season in his first two seasons. Fukudome just homered on opening day. I'm pretty sure Agbayani and Shinjo also homered opening day.

Shinjo!! I read that guy became a male nude model after he retired back to Japan. O:-)

More on topic, Barry Bonds was a pretty crazy opening day hitter from about 01-04, but then that's not quite the same as Nady...

I knew about Kaz but I didn't realize how many Japanese players have abnormal opening days. Crazy!
