Lineups for Minny are in and, as speculated, Kubel is sitting for CRAIG MONROE, a career .254 hitter. Twins are rebuilding, so it only makes sense that they bench a great young hitter for an aged meatball. Any word on the thought process here? I heard speculation that Kubel isn't trusted by the manager?
Saw something in the hometown paper (Mpls) the other day that Gardy is going to platoon them based on "feel" rather than match-ups necessarily. I agree that this idea is super-lame. Kubel was solid enough last year to earn a full-time gig this year IMO.
As for the trust issue, I haven't heard anything to that effect, but there may be something to that.
Gardy does not like Kubel for some reason, he has just never trusted him enough to give him consistent AB's. Sad thing is, he will give Monroe every chance to fail before he even considers giving Kubel the lion's share of at bats. It sucks, because Kubel is a lot better at the plate, but if Gardy is going by feel I don't hae much hope that Kubel will get that many AB's.
This is not a true statement. They're definitely not going to be as good as they were two years ago, but Liriano's return and a better offense means they probably won't sink any lower than third in the division.
At least that's what they're telling us here in MPLS. I don't know what to believe right now.

It's a shame, I feel like Kubel need to rip it early in the season just to win a spot from CRAIG MONROE. Anyways, 2 games in and Monroe is 0-4, Kubel is 2-5.
The good thing is that Ron Gardenhire doesn't have much of an ego, and will tweak the lineup if need be. Basically, Monroe isn't exactly "safe" in the lineup. Kubel will get his AB's.
