Chad Cordero was held out of a save opportunity Sunday in the ninth inning against the Braves.
Cordero was up in the bullpen, but Jon Rauch, who wasn't needed in the eighth, came in for the ninth instead. It's possible Cordero felt something while warming up. The Nationals had two relievers up behind Rauch in the ninth, neither of them Cordero.
MLB audio, Nats radio guy said that Cordero was unavailable today. I guess it's just a warm up problem.

espn announcers said there was something wrong with corderos velocity lately...thats all i can tell you as of this moment. i went ahead and picked up rauch in all 4 of my leagues just in case
Chad Cordero sat down after warming up Sunday because of what ESPN's Peter Gammons is calling stiffness.
We'll assume it's arm stiffness, though that wasn't said. If Cordero is in for a DL stint, Jon Rauch would be the favorite for saves in Washington.
Mar 30 RHP Chad Cordero will be unavailable to pitch for at least two or three more days after developing right shoulder tendinitis prior to Sunday night's opener against the Braves. Cordero said he felt something "pop" in his shoulder as he was playing catch. He received a cortisone shot and thus will have to miss at least a few days. Scouts who watched Cordero pitch this spring noted his fastball was unusually low, topping out around 87 mph. Cordero insisted his arm felt fine until he started playing catch before Sunday's game, but perhaps the injury explains his decreased velocity.

From what they said on ESPN it sounded like it was just precaution. I sure hope that is all it is. He was warming up and they said it was just a little stiffness. If I am not mistaken it was a little cold out there and I guess there is no reason to take a chance on opening night.

His velocity has been down all spring. His numbers have also been on the decline in recent years. Even if he comes back soon, I doubt this will be the last time we see Raunch in the 9th.
