Gibbons
Orioles released outfielder Jay Gibbons.
Nice to see the Orioles front office show some guts for once. Gibbons had not only failed to help offensively in the two years since getting his four-year deal, but he was terribly injury prone and a liability defensively. He hit .230/.277/.348 in 270 at-bats last year, leaving him with a career .260/.314/.453 line. Now that he's off the juice, there's little reason to think he'll ever be a useful player again, making the decision to pay him $11.9 million to go away the correct one. Scott Moore should be a far more useful bench player.
