Hermida to DL?

Postby apz » Sat Mar 29, 2008 2:56 pm

Anyone know when the Marlins will officially move Hermida to the DL? Would really like to move him to the DL so I can pick up another player.

This guy reminds me of JD Drew. Great all-around tools, projected to be a .300 hitter with 30 HR, but just cannot stay healthy.

I've been wondering the same thing. The only news I could find about it today was this from the Miami Herald:

Right fielder Jeremy Hermida is almost certain to begin the season on the disabled list, which means the Marlins will fill his spot on the roster.

Assuming he does land on the DL, my guess would be that he officially gets that designation in Yahoo! (and other carriers presumably) on Monday, Opening Day. But I guess it could happen at any time. However, since his injury isn't serious, they'll probably take all the time they can in case he ends up being healthy enough to play in the opening series, which to me indicates that it'll go right up to Monday. Other guys with serious injuries (Escobar, Ryan, Rolen, etc.) have not been placed on the DL yet, so there must be some advantage for the club to wait on making that move.

Rotowire is reporting he'll only miss only 4 games and should be back on the lineup April 5th. He will still be on the DL to start the season, but it's retroactive to March 24th.

I think he's already playing in minor league games.
