Anyone taking a chance on this guy? PECOTA seems to love him, PFM giving 110 IP, 3.98 ERA, 50BB, 111 SO, and a near 20 VORP. Thems better numbers than Cueto and Volquez's projections by far. Sanchez appears to be a K machine.
He's having an ok spring, a little high walk rate, but almost a k per inning, and has locked up a starting spot with the Giants being that Lowry is injured. If he pitches more innings with SF, he could even be more valuable if he does well and stays in the rotation. Anyone have any more info on him?
I think Sanchez is a pretty good sleeper and he would have a lot more value is the Giants offense wasn't so, hmmm, offensive. A K per inning is certainly possible with Sanchez and having half of his starts at AT&T Park can only help him. The WHIP, however, is a different story.
Sanchez fastball sits around 90-93. He also has a pretty good changeup. On the other hand, his slider is very inconsistent. I'd keep an eye on him at the start of the season, it's not everyday we see a pitcher who can get a K per inning.
I have Sanchez in a 16 team league for a buck, but I will probably sit him the first and second outing to see how he does before I give him the chance to kill my WHIP.
I have him in a deeper 14-team dynasty league. Grabbed him with my last FA Draft pick. I'll spot start him for now, and hopefully he lives up to what PECOTAs saying.
I picked Sanchez in Round 28 of 29 of the 19-team Fantasy Forum Challenge. I had always heard that his stuff is pretty good and worth taking a really, really, really late round flier on.
The Giants have mucked him around a lot. They can't seem to pick whether they want him to be an RP or SP. He could be a good out-of-nowhere sleeper because I think a lot of your league mates will look at the jumbled crud that is his minor league record and pass on him. There are some serious Ks in his arm, I will be giving him a bench spot and seeing what happens.

Or Russ Ortiz, who they decided to use last year for two months as a placeholder for Lincecum's spot. As for the Giants rotation, it will likely be Zito, Cain, Lincecum, Correia, and Sanchez to start the year. Depending on how Sanchez and Correia do, one will probably be sent to the minors when Lowry comes back (early-mid May). So definitely a good option for a deeper league.
