Matt Stairs had a commendable season last year and signed as a backup in order to make a run at the series with a winning squad. That said, look for Stairs to start at first against righties and accumulate 450+ ABs. Also, if Aaron Guiel struggles at all, look for Stairs to steal some time in the outfield. Harvey will likely only see 150+ ABs as the left handed side of the first base platoon, and part time DH. As for Sweeney, due to his health, he will likely be relagated to full-time DH duties for the Royals.

I think Stairs will get the most AB's....but how much fantasy value he has...

Even if they both play I dont believe they will help a team unless it is a very deep 1.

I'm actually targeting Stairs in my 20 team league. He'll be playing at Kaufman and had a .950 ops last year (good for 7th in the NL). He will platoon with Harvey at 1st and will bat against right handers while Harvey takes lefties. To give you an idea of how bad Stairs is against lefties, he's had less than 75 at bats against them in the past 3 years combined.

Now, as to who will play more: 65% of the starters in the al central (minus the royals) are right-handed. So he'll get 65% of the time against them. Overall in the American League, 71.6% of the starters are right-handed.

So my overblown explanation: Stairs will get approximately 67-68% of the At Bats. And he should knock the snot out of the ball when he's playing.
