we just got a monster trading chip in our upper minors, Reid Brignac. It will be interesting to see how the Front Office handles this as I imagine a flood of GMs would be calling if Brignac is available.

I like Reid but what do the Rays need?
I know a bullpen, but other than that we have depth at starter.
3B is Evan
Aki is in at 2nd
Upton and Crawford have the OF on lock
Pena is here to stay

What would we trade one of our top prospects for?

Needs for the Rays for the 2009 and beyond if Beckham is the real deal and our pick.

Catcher--Navarro might be fine, this year will tell
2nd base--Aki is 29, and we need to see how he is going to hold up defensively.
OF--Power hitting Right fielder, heck we can live with a 260 BA as long as we are getting 35+ homers.
Pitching--We are loaded with pitching, but if 50% of them don't pan out, we could always use a solid arm.
Depth--We are actually limited on our depth right now in the bigs and in the minors. As seen with the Baldelli situation, more depth is always a plus.

It is interesting. I still love Alvarez though, but this SS prospect is intriguing for multiple reasons. Reid's defense is not very good and he does not seem to be getting much better. They have talked about moving him to another spot, just like they did with BJ. If that has to happen then we don't have a SS prospect in the system. This guy could be ready in 3 seasons and I am fairly comfortable with Bartlett at SS until then. I agree with RUMP that this would make Reid a huge trading chip and since they really wouldn't need to trade him, they could command something very nice in return.
