The bigger mistake was selling the Dodgers to Rupert Murdoch eons ago in the first place. Then, we wouldn't have to go through the Dan Evans/Paul DePodesta/Frank McCourt/Ned Colletti charade.

I'm a little surprised Kemp is hitting in the 3-hole this soon even though eventually I thought they would place him there (I originally thought it was James Loney's to lose), but great to hear. I don't own Kemp on any teams this year, but he'll be fun to watch if he gets things going. ;-D

Looks like a 3 man platoon for the 2 corner OF positions. If Andruw continues to struggle then we might see a 4 man platoon for the entire OF.

I reckon Colletti forced Torre to start Pierre today.
That's two outs they won't be getting back. O:-)

Kemps value if he platoons?

Postby kingmike74 » Wed Apr 02, 2008 11:32 am

After watching the Dodger game last night I cannot help but wonder what Torre's intentions are for the Kemp/Pierre.Ehtier situation.

If Kemp is only going to start v.s. lefties and PH every once in a while, what kind of value is that?

I just wonder if I cannot unload him now for more value or wait until he pops a few off.

I don't think he'll only start vs LHP for the entire year. Still if they can't move Pierre, I don't see him getting much more than 400 ABs. That was one of my main reasons for labeling him overvalued in most drafts this year. I don't think he'll get the ABs he needs to possibly earn the value he's being drafted at.

That said I don't think you want to get rid of him today, after he got the day off. Most managers might think you "know something" and would be hesitant to give you anywhere close to the value you drafted him for. I'd wait a while and see if they can move Pierre, or maybe sell high (if you can get top value in a trade) if Kemp goes on a little tear here early.

Agreed, thx for the words.

I got Kemp in round 13 of 22 so I got a great deal on him. I was seeing him go in rounds 5-6, that is just flat nuts. Kind of like a NYY fan grabbing Joba the gut in round 8-10.

I got him in round 14, I am staying put with him, through thick and thin. I don't think you will ever get fair value unless something "happens" to Pierre. It's hard to sit Pierre given his contract, so... I don't know. Again, his contract makes it hard for Dodgers to move him, for a one trick pony. I think Kemp fell to us because of these reasons.
