In our slow draft we had a guy draft Alan Embree in the 27th round. By itself this is not a big issue, except for the fact that the SAME GUY had drafted Embree in the 24th round.
I've seen plenty of people mess up and pick someone that was already drafted, but never someone they had drafted already for their own team.
I got into this money league last year that was autodrafted...I lost and vowed not to play again this year unless it was a live draft. I was not sure what to expect because some of the guys seemed pretty intelligent from the year before....but I new I had a better then 50% chance at pot when Braun went #1 and Fielder #3....I was even joking with a friend about what if Braun went #1 since it was all people from milwaukee.
This was a draft in a14 team H2H money league that I run. The first place prize is quite a chunk of money. Every person is invited. It is one of the most competitive leagues I play in, these guys know their stuff. It is extremely hard to find efficient Free Agents in this league because everyone drafts extremely well. Well this new guy was invited this year. One of the members knew him from work and he was interested in joining. He assured me that this guy knew baseball....Well....
Here are his first 15 Rounds
1. Johan Santana 2. Shane Victorino 3. Gary Sheffield 4. Kenji Johjima 5. Dan Haren 6. Carlos Delgado 7. Dice-K 8. Moises Alou 9. Chad Cordero 10. Freddy Sanchez 11. Evan Longoria 12. Yunel Escobar 13. Kazuo Matsui 14. Barry Zito 15. Troy Percival
I'll stop there. The rest of the guys he drafted are free agents in every league I am in.
When the 2nd round rolled around and he said "Shane Victorino" I stopped...everyone stopped and turned around. I seriously thought he was joking. So I asked him to repeat it and he said Shane Victorino. I thought that was a ridiculous pick but I have saw ridiculous reaches before. Then the 3rd round came around and he said "Gary Sheffield." Once again I stopped in disbelief before I scribbled Gary Sheffield onto the board. Sheffield and Victorino were projected no earlier than the 8th round. Then came the next pick...Kenji Johjima. Once again everyone turned around. Johjima was taken before Martin and V-Mart in this particular draft.
It was at this point I just stopped and said, "You know you are paying money to play in this league, right?" He looked at me in shock. As if what I was saying was offensive to him. He believed he was doing great in the draft.
After the 10th round pick of Sanchez who went undrafted in most of my leagues I turned to him and promised him $1000 if he made the playoffs, but he had to pay me $100 if he finished out of the basement. I meant it to and I still mean it. I have the check written and it is sitting at home in my office drawer. There is no way that this guy will be competitive in this league. These guys are not inactive owners like yahoo public leagues. They are brutal. As of right now he does not have a 2B and the best available 2B is Ronnie Belliard...this is the easiest $100 I have ever made.

The one pick that totally blows my mind is one guy in our league "scary larry", takes JAMES LONEY in the 5th round! I about lost it! I actually was targetting LONEY, but not til at least the 10th round! He took Loney before atkins, aramis, markakis, pence, EVERYONE pretty much! Thank god there's always a guy like "scary larry" in leagues to help people out who know what to do! Maybe by years end I'll be wrong and Loney will be a TOP 50 guy and Larry can laugh at me!
i doubt it tho. Post your best draft selection! Only in your serious leagues not MOCKS because we all know half of the picks in those are a joke.... and remember this was a $110 league, WOW
My first thought was why were Aramis, Atkins and Markakis still available in the 5th?

Not only that, there are 2 keepers as well so it is the 7th round. No way Aramis and Atkins should be there in the 7th round of any draft.

As always, it depends upon the settings.
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.
Highly competitive league, I had the #2 pick, and was happy to get HanRam,but when the guy before said, "Josh Beckett", I stopped, tried not to laugh, then I quickly said "A-Rod!".
I won't bore with the minutae of how we slot our keepers, but long story short is they are assigned a round value prior to the draft, people figure out who is worth keeping, who isn't (up to six). Long story short, a guy had his first round occupied with Ortiz. and there was only one other guy between him and his next pick, since everyone else in between didn't have a first or a second round pick. Beckett, Sabathia, Granderson available. Other guy takes Sabathia and Granderson as his two picks (he had open picks), so the next guy takes Carlos Pena, then the team behind him picks haren and beckett, then it comes back to him and he takes kazmir.
I was stunned, it was so ridiculous. He could have taken haren or beckett, and then taken pena if his heart was set on it. Or he could have done so many other things. It was really ridiculous. It almost makes you wish you could veto a draft choice for league integrity.
I'm in a 12 teamer, 11x11 league and I had the 11th pick. At first, I was pissed because I was hoping to be in the top 5-6 picks as I really wanted to grab either Cabrera, Holliday or Utley. I also hate being at either end of a snake draft because you have to wait so many picks in between. Anyway, the draft starts and immediately a few surprises happen that turn my misfortune into dumb luck. Howard goes #3 (not that this is obscene, but my league gives you -1 point for K's) and then Rollins goes 7th overall. Well, draft gets to me and I have my pick of Holliday, Utley and Ortiz. I take Holliday after debating it for a few seconds (I couldn't believe the choice I had to make) and then let the #12 team take Utley and Soriano before grabbing Ortiz with my 2nd round pick. Totally psyched over how that worked out.
You have to keep in mind, this is a relatively competitive league with a lot of the same managers since its inception (2003). But here are a few other surprises listed by name and draft round:
Ryan Braun (2nd, # 19) - was shocked to see him fall that low Derek Jeter (3rd, #34) - our league counts runs and doubles so he has more value than in 5X5 but still, 3rd round... Hunter Pence (4th, #47) - guy who picked him had him last year and he definitely reached here... Tim Lincecum (7th, #76) - pitching was flying off the board and Timmy went early Kevin Youkilis (8th, #85) - The guy who drafted hm defended the choice saying he needed a 3B and a back-up 1B. Okay...I'm a Red Sox homer in every sense of the definition, but this was too early on my boy Youk... Jacoby Ellsbury (9th, #97) - Red Sox homer on this one, just not me... Jay Bruce (13th, #150) - Funny thing here is that the guy who drafted Bruce also drafted the following: Soto (11th round), Longoria (15th round), Chamberlain (17th round) and Rasmus (19th round). Talk about a youth movement...
There were a few other late round choices of note, but I figure the late rounds are for surprises and risk so I'll let those be. Should be an interesting year.
