I have the 4th overall pick in a league that is traditional 5X5 plus Total bases and OBP. Is Bonds a good pick here? League is non-keeper and will have a choice between Bonds and Helton.
Between those two, I would take Helton. He will have a monster average and good OBP, and he will perform better than Bonds in every other category except SB's and HR's (which will be about even in my opinion).
I like Helton!! Bonds is becoming more of a risk every day IMHO, due to his age, worsening line-up, the whole BALCO thing...... Sometime soon, he is going to start sliding and I think it will be a rapid one. I personally don't want to be the one without a chair when the music stops.

Wouldn't that be a reason for Bonds walk totals to drop?
I would take Helton without hesitation.
No. Less support around him means more and more walks. If there's no one to make the other team pay for putting men on base, why risk pitching to San Francisco OF?
This is a tough one. I might be in the same position. I have the 5th pick and Bonds and Helton might still be there from what I've heard from the owners ahead of me. A lot of people are down on Bonds because of the reasons mentioned above, but his numbers last year were amazing, especially OBP (.529).
Looking at your categories: R-Helton
HR-Bonds
RBI-Helton
SB-Bonds
AVG-Either
Total Bases-Helton
OBP-Bonds
Helton is much younger and the Rockies scored about 100 more runs than San Fran last season.
Both positions are deep, with many good players.
Games played, the last 3 years:
Bonds-153, 143, 130
Helton-159, 156, 160
I'd have to say Helton.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'
I'd go with Helton only because there aren't any question marks surrounding his game...he's primed for another huge season
Bonds...well, he can't play 160 games anymore, he's getting older, and he's so freakin' muscular that he tends to strain or pull something every couple months...
I'd take Helton, but I can certainly see the temptation for Bonds...either one should do you very well in OBP
That is a tuff question....but I think I would go with Helton....
