Rolen breaks finger

Postby jim1773 » Sun Mar 23, 2008 7:37 pm

Just picked him up off waivers yesterday -- apparently not serious, but certainly a set-back given his injury-prone career. Now I need to decide between Casey Blake and Melvin Mora in an AL-only league. I guess this is what I get for waiting so long to draft a 3rd baseman.

Nice font. !+)

I took a flier on Rolen and I figured he could at least wait until April before getting hurt.

Per Rotoworld:

Scott Rolen suffered a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger during fielding drills Sunday and could miss the start of the season.

His fingernail was also torn off. "The fracture is actually not a problem because he can play with a fracture," said general manager J.P. Ricciardi. "It’s losing the nail." The Jays will have a better idea about the timetable for Rolen's return on Monday. "Early prognosis is it’s not going to be six weeks or something like that, so I don’t even want to throw a schedule out there." Marco Scutaro would get most of the playing time at third if Rolen needs to miss the first couple of weeks of the year. John McDonald would back him up. Buck Coats could make the Jays as reserve. Rolen should be one of the backups, having Rolen as a starter in any format is a recipe for disaster.

rolen is my CI in a league where we draft over 400 players. pretty deep league with 14 teams, but yea rolen isn't your ideal starter but i took what was available.

So let's see, we've already lost Janssen for the year, Burnett's hurt and been getting lit up all spring training, we released Reed Johnson for nothing, and now Rolen's hurt, and the season hasn't even begun yet? :-S

Can somebody just fire JP already and get it over with?
