I've waited too long in my 6 x 6 (OBP is the 6th) league to go with at least one catcher (we need 2). I figure one of my next picks will have to be one of these scrubby guys........a little help with their rankings (at least a top 3) and some reasoning would be great...thanks!!!
Brad Ausmus
Ramon Hernandez
Dan Wilson
Einar Diaz
Brian Schneider
Jason LaRue
Wiki Gonzalez
Bengie Molina
Chad Moeller
Out of those guys, probably Ausmus. I'd wait til the later rounds to draft a second catcher now. No sense in getting one now when the difference in talent is marginal. You can get about the same producing catcher in the last round.
Jody, Jody Davis. Hits 'em high and far. Jody, Jody Davis. He's a superstar. Holy Cow!!!! http://www.stinkytee.com
Sorry, didn't make it clear.....I have no catchers yet. I figure I at least need to grab one because many other teams have to fill theirs' as well...thanks for the input, looking forward to more opinions....
You really are scraping the bottom. It may be my bias, but of the catchers you list, I would choose LaRue. He might not hit above .250 (none of them is guaranteed to), but at least he has a little pop in his bat. He could easily hit 12-15 HR.
After that, I'd go with Bengie Molina, but that's probably World Series bias.
i would stay away form Wilson, he is going to lose some time to Ben Davis as it is. Plus his age has already caught up with him, he strained his oblique muscle yesterday taking batting practice. already going to miss a couple of weeks.
ouch...as your starting catcher i wouldnt take any of them. get someone else for trade bait for one. is it manditory to draft two catchters? if it is i would go with LaRue.
laRue- he will not do great for u, of cource, but will do OK. look for around .254 avg, 30-35 runs, 10-12 HR's, 40 RBI's. but him not beeing good defencive catcher will get himless playing time. 20 pass balls last year, lead the majors.
If Toby Hall is still around, definitely grab him. Otherwise, you could grab Victor Martinez or Miguel Olivo if they are available. Unproven talent in the majors, but at this point it might be worth taking the risk. Olivo will probably start for the CWS (I think), and Martinez has an outside chance of starting the season with CLE, though he is more likely to start in AAA and get called up in a few months.
Or you could just grab Wiki because he has the coolest sounding name.
All of those guys are already gone. This is a 15 team, 23 man active roster league. We are already in round 19 of a 40 round draft. Catching is the least important offensive position in my opinion, being once the top 4 are off the board, you are not left with much anyway.
