They should just legalize gambling here and enjoy the revenue, jobs, and economy it creates. We always hear about a lack of money for this or that when they are talking about tax revenues, well, there's a really easy fix for it.

Isn't playing fantasy sports for money considered gambling? Why haven't they cracked down on that?

Nope, the courts ruled fantasy sports as a game of skill, so there's nothing to crack down on. Granted, a few states have cracked down anyway, but that's all in the fine print at places like Sportsline that run money leagues.

Now they just need to do the logical thing and classify poker as a game of skill as well. :-)

I don't think I've ever heard someone say they lost money playing online poker. There must be one really bad player out there who loses millions everyday so that everyone else can win. :-D

yeah, good point. everyone claims to be rich off online poker, but i never see the dividends....im very streaky online...at times, i feel like i cant lose, then others it feels like i cant win. all in all, im definitely up money, but ive try to play less, because its just too time consuming for me.

You're on the wrong forums for that. :-b

I am a member of 2 forums (don't ever use them anymore though) where people give actual numbers as to win/loss. Pretty amazing how many admit to losing at a particular site. They tend to blame the site rather than their play, but still, they at least admit they lost money.

Seriously and no joke, I turned profit at all 10 of the poker sites I had accounts with. My online profit margin dwarfs my real life profit margin. I make money either way, but if I had to choose back then, gimme the online due to all the fish. Much, much easier to turn large profit on little risk online (or at least it used to be quite easy - dunno now that so many fish are no longer playing due to the US laws). In live play you tend to at least have a few decent players at your table, or hit a table of rocks much more often.

Hmm..interesting. I don't quite get why they wouldn't consider poker a game of skill. :-?

they dont consider poker a game of skill because over the short term luck is very very heavily involved, its a very high variance game... what they dont realize is that over the longterm the variance usually will even out and it becomes a much more skill intensive game

i actually support myself with online poker right now as i am very lazy and don't want a real job... its actually not illegal to play, the government just made it illegal for the site themselves to accept money from americans, some companies like the publicly traded partypoker decided it would be best to just oblige and pull out while others such as pokerstars, full tilt, and some others basically just flipped off the US government and said they couldn't be stopped since theyre based out of the country

for people in this thread who actually play and want to know how they're doing there are a couple of really good poker forums where you can get very good advice on your play...two i frequent are http://www.bet-the-pot.com and http://www.twoplustwo.com

i'd say that live play is considerably worse than online play but the computer dealer/ability to play multiple tables at once make online poker much much more profitable...you might get 20 hands/hr sitting at a live table but i play 6 tables at once online (some people play up to 16 and its ridiculous) and get about 500-600 hands/hr, so while i may win at a slower pace, the quantity of hands i'm playing allows me to win more overall
