Just drafted...not too good right?(WHIR)

Postby kidsilk » Sat Mar 22, 2008 1:13 pm

I just had a draft where I had 12th pick(last). I drafted Rollins and Braun with 12 and 13 picks and think maybe I should have picked Ortiz instead of Braun there. Anyway. It is a 5x5 roto style(OPS instead of BA) 12 team league with 21 man rosters. I think I need both more speed and power...not a good thing. What do you think? Any opinions appreciated.

Team Roster:

C-Molina
1B-Morneau
2B-Polanco
SS-Rollins
3B-Braun
OF-Rios
OF-D. Young
OF-Franceour
UTI-Ibanez
BN-Butler
BN-Wigginton
BN-Patterson

SP-Haren
SP-Smoltz
RP-Valverde
RP-Street
P-Soriano
P-Gollardo
P-Perez
BN-Arroyo
BN-Meche

I dont think you that much power. Rios and Braun I think will do very well this season. Speed, yes u will need more of that though I also think Rollins will at least make 45 this season if not more. Your pitching is very good as long as Smoltz doesn't get hurt and your RP is outstanding. I dont really like Perez but thats just my opinion. I think you have a very good chance at championship in your league as long as your players stay healthy so you will have to watch out for Braun, Smoltz, and Street. Other than that GOOD DRAFT. and GOOD LUCK!

I don't think it's horrible, you definitely have some potential. The decision on Braun and Big Papi is a tough one. I've never been a big fan of taking a DH so early because your limited on where you can play them. Braun I just picked up in a trade so I'm hoping for a huge year, but you never know what can happen in that second year. Your pitching is pretty solid although I am not as high on Haren being a #1 SP, I just think the first half last year he pitched a little over his head. I love lIncecum and your closers have great upside. Maybe look to put Haren on the block unless your absolutely in love with him, try to get a pitcher in return and maybe a solid outfielder as well.

thanks for the help

I think your team is pretty well balanced, but it does seem to be lacking a little bit in the power category. I don't think it will hurt that bad, though, because your team should hit for average and steal some bags. If a few weeks into the season, you see you need some power, you could trade a SP for a cheap source of HRs.

Which Molina do you have... it makes a big difference. I would've taken Papi for sure, the guy's a MONSTER! I know Polanco had a great season last year but I don't look for him to repeat that performance. Great young guys you have in Butler and Frenchy. Your pitching is a bit suspect. I'm a fan of Smoltz but the guy is 40. I guess until he shows otherwise I have to believe he'll continue to get the job done, but this might be the year he shows his age. I also like Gollardo but he's starting the year on the DL and that might carry over thru out the season. I would hang onto Haren, I think he'll continue to impress and improve. Very good overall but you're right about the need for speed and power but I don't think it's as serious as you think.

I think you will get buy with your spped --no big threat but Rios/Braun /Young all should approach 20 swipes so add Rollins and you will be ok.

Great lineup, you could use an upgrade in the OF to really contend for 1st place. Closers are superb but all injury prone. Your starters are solid from top to bottom.

Closers-A
11' Outlook:
AL CY: Jon Lester
NL CY: Roy Halladay
AL MVP: Alex Rodriguez
NL MVP: Troy Tulowitski
