Borowski vs. Betancourt

Why the heck is Joe Borowski the closer over Rafeal Betancourt? Borowski is older then dirt and has like a 5.00 ERA. Betancourt seems like he has much better stuff.

Joe Blow has been impressive this spring, only a 7.20 era.

Borowski has the job because he's a vet, and his numbers weren't that terrible when he was in a save situation. However, I think he will lose the job.

I don't know about Kobayashi, but Raphael Perez gets no love even though his numbers were as spectacular as Betancourt's last year...

Take out Borowski's three worst games and his ERA drops down to 3.23 and his WHIP goes to 1.25. As for Betancourt, the Indians seem determined to leave him as the eight-inning man and Kobayashi has experience with 227 career saves.

I love Perez, he's a great choice for the MR strategy but he doesn't get as many K's as the the top top guys.

You do realize if you take out every pitchers worst 3 games, and everything improves. Removing games is the stupidest thing. They happened.

Borowski came sooo close to blowing so many games last year, he would always allow 2 guys on...it was a nightmare. I owned him last year, and I won't touch him again in my H2H league...he would cost me era/whip on close weeks

I know but 1.2 innings where you gave up 14 earned runs is a big blow. That final ERA and WHIP gives people a doom-and-gloom attitude towards Borowski. While Joe Bo is not a top closer, his numbers should be vastly improved compared to his final numbers from the previous season. His ERA in save situations (3.78) versus nonsave situations (9.60). Borowski can certainly post a 3.8 ERA.

Borowski does indeed blow, though the Indians are on record saying they would like to keep Betancourt in the set up role and not move him to closer if Borowski falters. Which leads me to think Kobayashi or Perez would get the first shot at closing if something does happen.
