Smoltz's sore right shoulder, problems?

Postby kingmike74 » Fri Mar 21, 2008 11:55 am

I have drafted Smoltz three years running and he has helped me win 4 league championships, should this year be different?

Here is what CBS said March 21st:

News: The Atlanta Braves have held John Smoltz out of his scheduled start Friday because of tightness in his right shoulder. Smoltz first felt the tightness earlier in the week and still felt the discomfort early Friday.

Analysis: Smoltz hopes to start Wednesday against the Nationals. But if he experiences more problems, his status for the start of the season could be in doubt. Fantasy owners should not be totally surprised by the news as he will turn 41 in May. This could be the perfect warning to Fantasy owners who still rightfully view him as a Fantasy ace. He pitched 200-plus innings in 2007 and just missed 200 strikeouts, but is an injury-risk at this stage in his career.

I think it's a real problem, and some sources have speculated a DL stint.

All speculation at this point, but definitely something that will take shape over the next couple of days.

He said it was fine and if it was a regular season game he would be pitching...

I'd still keep a close eye on the situation though.

I have Smoltz ranked seventh behind Webb this year. He replaced Lackey for now. He has been my rock for a few years and I hope the shoulder scare lets me sneak up on him in later round this year.

I also have Smoltz and Lackey... But also Peavy, but still, I am more than a bit worried.

As a Smoltz owner I was hoping to get some insight on his status.
And these are good information.

Who cares who you got on your team. This is not the place to discuss your rotation!
