What to do in this situation?

If I draft Ryan Howard in the 1st round, would you draft say someone like Mark Texiera in the 2nd round to fill your corner infield position or would you draft another position? I am asking this because I am afraid that the player I am hoping to get may get taken earlier. I was hoping to get Tex in the 2nd because he may be the best player available when it is my next pick.

just take whoever is the best value/option in the 2nd, i think Teix definetly could be that guy, strategy wise if thats what ur asking idk i guess. what pick do u have? how many teams???

I have no problem with doing that, especially if you have a UT spot too. You can always trade players if it becomes a problem. I had one draft this year where I took Fielder in the 1st round and Pujols fell to me in the 2nd round and I didn't think twice about grabbing him.

Agreed. I think Ortiz may be available in the second in a lot of leagues. If I grab Fielder or Howard in the 1st, and either Pujols or Ortiz are available in the 2nd, I'm grabbing them. Tex depending on who else is there. I mean it reduces you flexibility a bit, but you get a top bat for you UT so IMO you come out ahead.

I did this in my Yahoo Winner league this year. I drafted Teixeira, Agon for 1B and also Upton, Kinsler, Weeks for 2B. I traded Agon for Furcal as I waited too late on SS. I have Weeks sitting on the bench currently and probably move one of 2B for something I need down the road. So I don't have a problem with grabbing a lot of players at the same position.
