J Hernandez to play SS ..

Postby ScurvyDog » Sat Mar 01, 2003 8:56 pm

Good news - He will play and should qualify at SS in '03.

From Rotoworld.com:

Juan Uribe - SS - Colorado Rockies Mar 1

Juan Uribe sustained a stress fracture in his right foot in the second inning of today's game and is out indefinitely.
He will be sent to Denver for further tests. Depending on the severity of the fracture, Uribe could miss as much as two or three months. With Uribe out, Jose Hernandez will take over at shortstop. Chris Stynes is the favorite to start at third base, but Greg Norton and Brent Butler will also see time at the position.

Stynes could end up a nice late sleeper pick.

Good news? If Uribe were playing shortstop, Hernandez would have to play third, giving him the fantasy flexibility to play at both SS and 3B. Plus, Uribe could have been a sleeper if he could put together more months like April 2002. :-[

Yep...Good news. Uribe hit like crazy last spring...only to fall to .232

Hernandez looks like a good sleeper for late rounds.

Eric F is right. It's bad because Jose Hernandez already qualifies at SS in most leagues. Had Uribe not got injured the fast Jose would have qualified at another position making him more flexible.

Well, in my league - you have to play at least one game at the dratfed position within the first 20 games. AND can only draft at qualifies position s from lat year. SO, I protected hin at SS and thought I'd have to shift him. Now I won't - good news! :-B

PLUS - He is more valuable as a SS (understand that dual position flexibilty is better, BUT if he only played 3B - he's worth less IMO)
