John Patterson Released

Rotoworld
Nationals released RHP John Patterson.
Stunning. Obviously the Nationals shared the same concerns about Patterson's lack of velocity that we did, but he still looked like their probable Opening Day starter and they'll only save about $600,000 by cutting him. They're left with a rotation of Shawn Hill, Jason Bergmann, Tim Redding, Odalis Perez and either Matt Chico or John Lannan. They'll probably need both young lefties initially with Hill likely to open up on the DL.

honestly, even if he doesn't have his velocity. You don't release your best pitcher. It MAY make sense on a pitching rich team like the D-Rays. But Nationals got what? Odalis Perez, Tyler Clippard, Chico, Lannan? That's not good depth. Oh well.

They must have seen something in side sessions or... something. I know he got rocked his last time out, but he's not that bad, is he?

Odd move, to say the least.

Too bad... another young talented pitcher falling victim to injuries. He really started coming into his own.

Yeah, I'll always remember '05 when he put it all together and was just filthy. Patterson wasn't quite so good in '06 and '07 and both times he was sidelined with injuries for the remainder of those seasons. This Spring just seemed more like the same old thing, but I also thought he should've been retained.

Shocker. It looks like he'll never regain the form he showed in 2005. Well, even if not, he'll always have a special place in my memory for that season when he was a strong contributor to my championship run. Ah, the memories. Some day, Johnny and I will have to have a beer and reminisce. I won't bring up the 2006 and 2007 seasons when I drafted him and got nothing but frustration. It'll be all about the good times.

I think if John had a really hot wife he'd still have a job, a la Kris Benson.
Get to work on that, buddy.

Personally I think John's wife is hotter and (slightly) less trashy.
