This is the first year my league has done holds. Roster size of 24 but we have 1UTIL, 4OF, and 2IF spots so that is 12 bats. We have 2SP, 2RP, and 3P spots. I'm confused on how many starters, closers and middle men I need to compete in all pitching cats. I guess it would be nice to have some MR with SP eligability but I haven't seen any. I was thinking of having to 3 bench bats and 4SP, 3 RP and 2 MR but that seems like I wouldn't win any categories.

I've played in a 16 team league, where it generally takes 6-70 holds to be competitive. I typically have 2-3 solid holders, and one guy that I may switch in and out when I have other needs (e.g. dropping him on Satuday to pick up a catcher for Sunday).

The more I think about it, I may go with 3sp, 3rp, and 3mr. I will not do so well in W and QS but I should do great in K, K/9, BB, K/BB and be competitive in SV and HLD. I don't know, it looks like we should have expanded our rosters.

One is a great choice, the other is questionable
Justin Duscherer is another possibility if he makes the starting rotation.
Thanks, I was more talking about relief pitchers having SP so that I can slot them there when I don't have SP's starting. I think that would be very valuable.

I agree. You need an expanded roster. Having all those hitters makes it impossible to have any pitching depth. Just draft hitting for at least the first 7 rounds.
I may end up just having two bench super utility bats like: Yunel Escobar (Atl - 2B,3B,SS) Alfredo Amezaga (Fla - 2B,3B,SS,OF) Rich Aurilia (SF - 1B,2B,3B,SS) Mark DeRosa (ChC - 1B,2B,3B,OF)
or target Chone Figgins (LAA - 2B,3B,OF)
That way I can have 4SP, 3RP, 3MR
