When will Gallardo be placed on the DL? Do teams wait until the start of the regular season?

Usually they wait until the last minute. Right now they are not pitching him in real spring training because they want to be able to backdate his DL time 9 days so the team is apparently under the assumption he'll miss fewer than 15 days total.
