I would rather have Patterson that Rajai Davis, just b/c it appears that he's the 'full timer' while Davis seems sort of stuck for playing time. Still, any of them could have the wheels fall off the bus or get hit by a slump. It still astounds me that the Reds would go w/ CPat w/ his strange history w/ Dusty but, if that's their plan, there's steals waiting to be taken and you might as well get them while they're hot. Maybe something will click and 2003/04 will come back for him?
Just from a fans stand point, he is a must get. I live 1 hour from Cinci and plan on making a lot of trips. I think that park can do nothing but help his numbers.

holy smokes, you've gone 'all in' w/ the avatar and everything!! I think that he got hurt and it killed him somehow. It was wierd watching it play out and I would really like to see him get 'er done for a couple of years at least. It really was a bummer that whatever happened happened. I am still to stocked w/ OF to be taking fliers on him though...
He is 28 years old and of course there is a chance he turns his career around and maybe he is worth a ww pick to see how he plays but I don't understand what he has done in his what 7 years as a major league player to think that he is all of a sudden going to become a fantasy factor.

Same thing could be said for Carlos Pena this time last year. And Jeremy Guthrie. And Dmitri Young. And Kevin Gregg. And Jermaine Dye in 06. Etc.
.407/.429/.487 - in 27 at-bats, 2 strikeouts and 1 walk, 0 SB and 1 CS
So to be fair, he's clearly earned the job over Bruce with his performance. I don't think he becomes a dominant fantasy player this year, but to be fair he has had several seasons where he was very valuable (04 with the Cubs, 06 with the Orioles). In particular, an 08 repeat of his 06 season with the O's (.276/.314/.443 with 16 HR and 45 SB) isn't out of the question.
That kind of stat line makes him the poor man's Carl Crawford. For that, I was willing to take a 15th round flier on him instead of drafting a solid but mediocre starter like Pettitte.
He hasn't proven himself, but he has shown flashes of decent power and excellent base-stealing. He is an intriguing player (sleeper) because at times he would run rampant on the bases. Combine that aggressiveness with his power to hit 20 or so homers, that is what makes people want him. Especially now that he is leading off in the band-box of a ballpark, this maybe his best chance yet to show the world what he has. While we CANNOT expect him to bat .300, we can expect him to strikeout, steal bases, and hit a few lead-off homers.
