that's only because you remember the times you are burned more than the times that it helps you. the numbers don't lie.

as far as the lefties above getting worse against righties and better against lefties after having huge splits the year before, it is just a regression to the mean. if the splits are 12% for lefties, and they hit better against righties by more than that 12%, they are more likely to not hit righties as well the next year.

I tend to ignore righty/lefty except when looking at platoon hitters in deep leagues. In those very deep leagues, you are forced to take marginal players, and platoon hitters are valuable because they at least produce something. In those cases, I prefer lefty platoon guys because it seems to me they get more at bats. I never checked stats to back that up, but it seems intuitive.
