Buchholz likely going to Triple-A?

Postby ivanhack » Wed Mar 19, 2008 10:28 am

cbs.sportsline

Clay Buchholz, SP BOS

News: According to The Sports Xchange, Clay Buchholz will likely start the season in Triple-A Pawtucket, and Bartolo Colon will likely join the team in mid-April when the need for a fifth starter arises.

Analysis: This report catches us a little by surprise, as the injury to Curt Schilling seemed to clear a spot for Buchholz, who looked ready for the majors when he hurled a no-hitter last year. Buchholz is still a solid long-term keeper and flier in mixed leagues, as he'd know doubt be the first option if someone struggled or suffered an injury. He has tremendous upside.

Interesting, Gammons was just saying Buch will start the season in the BoSox rotation on "Good Call, Bad Call" on Sportscenter.

There are conflicting reports right now, but I don't see them putting Colon in the rotation over Buchholz.

CBS Sportsline is notoriously known for its irresponsible speculation and I think a lot of it has to do with their sources.

Gammons is more credible than Sports XChange.

Well the Sox sent Colon down to AAA today, so it looks like you have your answer. Buchholz is also on the roster for the trip to Japan, so it does look very likely he will begin the season in the majors.

Yeah can I just say Fatolo over Buchholz would be one of the dumber decisions...I mean, it's not like Buchholz's inning limit wouldn't count his minor totals, so you might as well maximize the utility of his limited workload to the big league team. Fatolo should be injury-replacement and/or taking over for spot starts when Buchholz gets tired or needs rest to keep him pitching into October.

Or when the team needs a 6th starter (i.e. doubleheaders). Agreed that I would start Buchholz over Colon.
