Steve/Yoda, those are fine points, but again they are not relevant to this conversation. The ONLY thing that is relevant right now is whether MLB agreed to the money as a stipulation to get the Sox to go to Japan. How much money, how much the trip costs, how much the coaches make - none of that is relevant to determining right/wrong.

The Red Sox will play Wednesday after delaying their game against the Blue Jays for an hour due to a proposed boycott of the trip to Japan.
It's unclear if the issue has been resolved with MLB, but it suggests progress has been made. Still, there's already been one change because of the threat. Daisuke Matsuzaka is pitching in a minor league game rather than against the Blue Jays because the Red Sox didn't want to risk throwing his schedule off.

I'd be shocked if they didn't work something out and MLB made them forfeit the two games. That would be ridiculous.

If they're that concerned, they should front the money to the coaches and then chase MLB to get reimbursed. But it's wrong to dismiss this as not a big deal because these are some fat cats who don't care about forty grand. I'd be pretty ticked if I was promised a $40,000 bonus months ago and then told, "You know what; that's not coming."

This is the first thing I thought of. Let the lawyers figure it out. If the Red Sox org signed an agreement that left out all these things that they were promised, isn't it their fault (the FO)?

If there is no written agreement, there must be records of meetings and other communications.

I have a feeling the Sox are right, but I don't think they are doing the right thing.

Three parts? This has season-long miniseries written all over it! They're going to bring this up at least 20 times this season.

That is exactly the red sox point.

Just read the resolution:
Major League Baseball agreed to pay the managers, coaches and trainers on the trip $20,000 each from management's proceeds, a person familiar with the agreement said, speaking on condition of anonymity because details weren't announced. The Red Sox agreed to make up the difference to make the amount equal, and to pay some of the other team personnel making the trip, the person said.
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.
