Need your godly advice, I have a few teams...

Postby Sketchpadsrus » Tue Mar 18, 2008 1:13 pm

This sites great, and now that I have more FB knowledge (this is my third year playing) I feel I'll be able to provide feedback to others. But more importantly, my teams... (I'm only doing one at a time)

Yahoo, Roto, 12 teams, 12th pick
Custom League (extra positions: C, CI, MI, 2OFs, and we start 5 SP, 6 RP)
Stats used: AB, RBI, SB, TB, AVG, OBP, SLG
IP, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB

C - Saltalamacchia
C - Gregg Zaun
1B - Ryan Howard
2B - Howie Kendrick
3B - Aramis Ramirez
SS - JJ Hardy
CI - Adrian Gonzalez
MI - Felipe Lopez
OF - Alfonso Soriano
OF - Brad Hawpe
OF - Jermaine Dye
OF - Melky Cabrera
OF - Jose Guillien
Util - Frank Thomas
Bench - Iwamura (3B), Coco Crisp (OF), Jacque Jones (OF)

SP - Josh Beckett, John Lackey, Derek Lowe, Dustin McGowen, Jon Lester
RP - Joe Nathan, Chad Cordero, Kevin Gregg, C. J. Wilson, Blaine Boyer, Octavio Dotel
Bench - Gil Meche, Boof Bonser

I need alot of help with this league, due to the custom rules. Am I starting the right guys (Meche will replace Lackey until he's back)? Where am I weakest, OF or SP? Whats my trade fodder? Will everyone be fighting for newly established closers, or will set-up guys get enough stats to be helpful?

So confused...

Thanks in advance ;-D

Thanks for your advice on my question. All the guys in the league are fantasy baseball veterans I just don't know why certain players fell to me like that.

Now your team (I understand a 7x7 roto)

AB's a category, that's a first. K/BB tough category. Intersting.

Strengths:

Power. Paricularly at the corner IF and DH spots. All your guys with the exception of Melky Cabrera are double digit homers, most should be over 20. I love Adrian Gonzalez this season he will assert himself as a top 5 1B. I don't buy into the PETCO bullsh1t, if you're a good hitter you're a good hitter anywhere.

Proven players. I like how you haven't got caught up into the youth wave trying to get unproven talent like Bruce, Maybin, Longoria etc. yet you still have younger proven players like Howard, Ad Gonzalez, JJ Hardy.

Weaknesses:

Pitching. Missing Lackey for a month or so will hurt and now Beckett is also hurting. My philosophy with pitching is to get as many NL pitchers as possible becuause they don't have to face a DH for 95% of the time. You have too many AL pitchers. I think Gregg will be a bust as will CJ Wilson but Nathan is money and Cordero will be improved over last season.

Overall I think you should at least finish middle of the pack. Improve the pitching and that will help. Good luck!

The draft started 15 min. earlier then scheduled, and my first two auto-picks (12th and 13th overall) were Prince and Howard. I picked up Thome in a late round (15th) as a possible replacement if I could trade one of them. OFers and RPs went all of a sudden, leaving me scrambling each time to try and pick-up a good player.

SS - Michael Young
OF - Manny Ramirez

OF - Jeremy Hermida
U - Ryan Howard
Bench - Jim Thome (U), Garret Anderson (OF), Luis Castillo (2B)

SP - Justin Verlander
SP - Felix Hernandez
RP - Bobby Jenks
RP - Manny Corpas
P - Brad Penny
P - Jason Isringhausen

Don't let Fielder or Howard go cheap! See if you can get a five tooler with the primary need being speed, but get power too. With that, you'll look strong, I'd say.

Any thought on what kind of guys I could get with either Prince or Howard? What kind of guys should I be aiming for? If I choose to keep them both, what are my biggest holes and how can I fix them?
