WTF is this organization(loose usage of that term) thinking. In a recent article on their web pages Hillman is discussing the log jam @ 1b between Gload, Teahan, Butler & Shealy....& how no progress in a making a decision has been yet, but mentions that Bulter & Shealy still have minor league options while Goad & Teahan dont...& that could play a part in the decision breaking camp.
Has Butler not been their best bat this spring? Is he not one of the cornerstones of the franchise? Why all this messing around w/ Ross 'freakin' Gload.
Billy Butler needs to be in that line up everyday weather it be 1b or DH. If Hillman & the Royals send him down to start the year, I will just give up on this team.
Most of the time I tend to side with the organization on keeping young guys in the minor leagues, but seriously, this is a no brainer. I'd be pretty upset if I was a Royals fan.
"It'll probably go right down to the end," Hillman said. "Even, for instance, if a Billy Butler does not log most of his at-bats playing at first base, it's something that we'll stay consistent with in having the ability to utilize when we want to anyhow."
I must be retarded but what does that mean? Someone translate.
I couldn't imagine Butler being sent down to AAA unless he's really a butcher at first base and needs to improve his defense but even then, he has no business in the minors.

Sounds to me, like he'll be a DH, as bizarre as that quote is worded.
I don't see the log jam ... Teahan LF, Butler DH (sometimes 1B), platoon Shealy and Gload. It doesn't seem that hard to me. I think what the original article is saying is who plays 1B for the most part, which should go down to the wire as none are great options and others can play elsewhere (like Teahan and Butler). Lastly articles always say so and so has minor league options, it's just to inform the reader.

I dont see the reason of trying to improve his defense. Why not just stick him at DH?

Because there's no sense in limiting where a player can play that sharply if you don't have to. I wouldn't send him back to AAA, but I would definitely try like hell to at least make him an adequate 1B fielder, if possible.
