Right-hander Eric Gagne lost in arbitration and will make $5 million this year.
Gagne had asked for $8 million, which would have been the highest award even for a first-time arbitration-eligible player. With Albert Pujols set to sign a multiyear deal, it looks like Derek Jeter will get to keep his record.

That kind of suprised me....I figured he had a good shot at winning it.... :-/

I thought Gagne would get it. That suprises me.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

hmmm, the Dodgers should have gave in, Gagne will be the next Hoffman. (Thats if he isn't already better than Hoffman in his prime ;-) )

I don't think it will help the dodgers when it comes time to sign him to a long term contract. On the other hand a guy like Smoltz who has been in the majors for years and is proven is making $10 million a year so I think for a young guy like Gagne $5 million is pretty darn good.

DHC, I gotta kid you--Gagne "looses" arbitration? he he....

Anyway, I thought he'd have a good shot, too. I mean, Cy Young, all those saves. Amazing. I bet the new GM won't keep him... :)
