Just Drafted - Whaddya think???

Postby zebra31 » Sun Mar 16, 2008 11:56 am

I just drafted - whaddya think? Here's the league format:

10 Team, Mixed, 5x5 - c, 1b, 2b, 3b, ss, of, of, of, util / sp, sp, rp, rp, p, p, p

We kept 7 players each (70 total) which is more than in the past. We will move to 10 keepers next

year and that will be the standard going forward.

In no particular order:

C Jorge Posada
1B Carlos Pena, Carlos Guillen
2B Chone Figgins
3B Alex Rodriguez
SS Carlos Guillen, Rafael Furcal
OF Adam Dunn, Bobby Abreu, Chris B Young
OF Gary Sheffield, Hideki Matsui, Jermaine Dye
OF Jay Bruce, Colby Rasmus, Lastings Milledge (Prospect Row)

SP John Smoltz, Felix Hernandez, Yovanni Gallardo
SP John Lester, Joe Blanton, Randy Johnson

RP Eric Gagne, Jason Isringhausen, Brian Wilson
RP Carlos Marmol, Heath Bell.

I know I have a lot of OF's but people were letting them slip because they were after SP's and RP's.
What do you think of the three OF prospects?

What about the Starters?

What about the Relievers?

What about Power? What about Speed?
----------------------------------------

I really want to thank you for reading.

Please let me know what you think.

Yeah, the OF was the first thing that grabbed my attention!

To deal with each of your questions:

I know I have a lot of OF's but people were letting them slip because they were after SP's and RP's.
What do you think of the three OF prospects?

I like all three of them as prospects. Two questions spring to mind: how much will they contribute this year, and how likely are you to keep them?

With 7 keepers, Bruce is an outside possibility as a keeper, but neither of the other two are. In terms of contributing this year, Milledge has a chance of a 20-20 season, and Bruce will hit when he gets his chance. I'd hang on to both of them for now, but Rasmus doesn't seem to have much of a role to play on your team either this year or as a keeper.

The OF as a whole is very deep for you, and I think you could use one or more of them to address your glaring need:

What about the Starters?

Nothing wrong with the guys you have, but I think you need one more tier 2 starter to be competitive in a 10-teamer. I'd look to trade some of your OF depth - Abreu, for example, could get you a very decent pitcher in return.

What about the Relievers?

Gagne seems very underrated to me this year. Back in the NL, back closing, I think he'll do fine. YOu haven't got any of the elite closers, but what you have is fine. I expect Marmol to be closing as well sooner rather than later.

What about Power? What about Speed?

Looks like a healthy balance ;-D

You need SP you need RP you need to trade some of that OF and Furcal to help your total lack of pitching. You got some work cut out for you if you want to finish in the top 5.

help on mine?
