Will Manny Parra make the Brewers rotation??

Postby DetroitTigers » Sun Mar 16, 2008 10:20 am

His numbers this spring have been insane!! He's definitely better than Bush and Capuano. His situation is comparable to Johnny Cueto in Cincy. I'm definitely eyeing both of them!!

My buddy is a Parra fan as well and has been urging me to give him a look. I currently have a rotation that looks like this (12 man H2H - start 5 SP):

Webb
Oswalt
Bondo
Blanton
CJames

DL - Kelvim

Is Para or even Cueto an upgrade to Chuck James? Both Parra and Cueto are not slated to even make the rotation as of now, but definitely all signs are pointing yes...

It sounds like Parra will be the odd man out. He is definately better than Capuano and Bush but unless one of them is traded or hurt I don't see him cracking the rotation, at least not early in the season. I do think it is likely that he could takeover mid-season or during a playoff push especially if Capuano or Bush pitch as poorly as they have in the past. The dude is supposed to be nasty though, keep and eye on him and pick him up if he cracks the rotation......could be the next Gallardo!!!

From Karabell at ESPN

"In other Brewers news, Chris Capuano has inflammation in his throwing elbow, and will miss his next start. I'll go out on a limb: He's going to miss the next month of scheduled starts, at least. This is unlikely to end well. The Brewers do have options, as colleague Christopher Harris noted Tuesday, in Manny Parra and Carlos Villanueva. I wouldn't be shocked to see both in the rotation early on and thrive."

As a Parra owner, this has me a bit more optimistic. With the Gallardo injury, this possible development, as well as the risk of Sheets, I think Parra has a good chance to be a part of the rotation for the majority of the season.

I'm really surprised that the Brewers havn't made a trade yet. They have quite the list of potential SP's: Sheets, Suppan, Gallardo, Bush, Vargas, Capuano, Villaneuva, and Parra. My guess is that Villaneuva and Parra end up back in the minors, and Vargas goes to the bullpen.

Parra probably blew his shot at staring out in the rotation by giving up 8 runs in 3 2/3 IP yesterday against the ROYALS!!!

Parra ran into alot of bad luck yesterday, but he also wasn't on his game. It was one game, and everyone knew how well Parra was pitching. He's a lock to be in the roto.

Capuano is out with a torn UCL in his left elbow. This improves Parra's chances of staying with the team after ST.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the rotation (with Gallardo on the DL) is Sheets Suppan Parra Bush Vargas - with Villanueva getting optioned down.
