It's a Boy!

Postby thedude » Sat Mar 15, 2008 1:06 pm

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Daisuke Matsuzaka's wife has given birth to a boy.

That clears the way for Boston's right-hander to travel to Japan with his teammates. He could start in his homeland in the regular-season opener March 25 against Oakland.

The Red Sox had said it was uncertain whether Dice-K would make the trip because of his wife's pregnancy. The team flies Wednesday to Tokyo for two exhibition games against Japanese teams and two regular season games against Oakland.

The Red Sox said Tomoyo Matsuzaka gave birth at 7:30 a.m. Saturday to a 6-pound, 10-ounce boy but did not give the baby's name. The team did not say where the birth took place.

Nice, it makes the opening series with Oakland a lot more interesting. I might actually go into work early by choice for the first time ever so that I can listen to the entire game in peace. 6 am X-I .

TAMPA, Fla. -- Japanese right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka will start the Boston Red Sox's regular-season opener against the Oakland Athletics in Toyko on March 25.

"I think that will be a ton of excitement," Boston manager Terry Francona said before Monday's exhibition game against the New York Yankees. "I know he's honored."

Jon Lester will pitch the second game of the two-game series with the Athletics in Japan on March 26.

Clay Buchholz and Tim Wakefield will be on the hill for exhibition games in Japan prior to the regular-season contests.

Matsuzaka was scheduled to return to camp Monday after missing the previous two days following the birth of his son Saturday.

I'm surprised they didn't go with Wakefield in the 2nd game with track record in controlled environments. Oh well though, the Sox front office is really bullish on Lester this year.
