This is one of those things where you wonder about the privacy of these players. It seems strange that the medical community has so many laws in order to protect privacy, but hundreds of news organizations publish stuff like this and worse everyday.

As for failing to see humor here, I'd say this is a situation where you can feel bad for the guy but still have a cheap laugh or two at his expense.
