Salty vs. Laird.... AM I MISSING SOMETHING!?!?!?!?

Are the Rangers blind???
Did they forget that Saltalamacchia was the main componenet in the Teixeira trade?????

Last years numbers

Salty 300 ABs 11 HR .266 Avg :-L AS A ROOKIE
Laird 400 ABs 9 HR .224 ;-D NOT

I just want to express my hatred for the Texas Rangers franchise as of this moment. There is absolutely no reason for Laird to be starting, he is a career 245 major league hitter. Saltalamacchia is the future of your franchise at the Catcher position and outproduced Laird by a mile but yet the Rangers are going to start Laird because he is having a good spring???? WOW

I dont know about how they stack up from a defensive standpoint but im sure its not too big of a difference since I havent heard too much about Laird being a beast behind the plate. And even if Laird is better defensively, Salty makes up for any difference in defense with his bat.

LET SALTALAMACCHIA LOOSE!!!! This kid could be really good

Salty needs to work on his defense, it really is pretty bad for now. However, I'm pretty surprised he's not starting. I was going to draft him but obviously I'm not now.

Im sure he cant be that bad, even if he is that bad why dont they keep him at the major league level and platoon him and Laird????

Are they aware that they have Ben Frickin Broussard STARTING at 1B????? On some of the days that Saltalamacchia doesnt catch, let him play 1B!!!! He could accumulate at least 350 at the major league level this way.

Im just beyond belief that he is going to start out at Triple A when he has shown that he belongs in the major leagues.

Laird is a pretty good player. He'll be the starter until he gets traded or slumps.

While I did not draft Salty...I am curious as to where this info about Laird starting is coming from. I can find no confirmation of his starting anywhere I look. Is their a link by chance?

Laird is a better hitter than he showed last year, Salty is poor defensively. The Rangers are making the right move though they probably should have traded Laird to a team that needs a C and improved elsewhere.

Doesn't anyone remember from last year who the SOTO vs. Towles of this year was???

It was LAIRD vs. IANETTA from Colorado.

Both were very hyped, BOTH DID NOTHING during the 2007 season.

Salty should be better than any of the above 4 listed, but when choosing a backstop you can't have a DOORMAT, defense comes first. Offense is the flashy end, but being a HS baseball coach I'd much rather have a kid who can stop every single ball and run my defense (think of the catcher as the quarterback) than a guy who helps my sad offense out a little, MAYBE...

Salty should be a great stick in the future but he needs to ease into it....
