What is the latest round I can go without drafting a picher?

Postby JRRNeiklot » Thu Feb 19, 2004 4:51 pm

I've done well by drafting a pitcher in round two, but last year I took RJ and we all know how that went. What's the latest I can feasably wait before drafting the ace of my staff? 3? 4? I don't have a clue what pick I will have.

Thanks.

4th round is the latest possible moment, and you have no chance at having a solid staff doing that. test your skills, join my mock draft, instant message me.

I have gone as lonng as the 5th but wouldn't recomend it. I usually try to get my first pitcher in the 4th.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

I always like to have at least one starter and one closer by the eighth.

I'm targeting the 4-5th round this year, personally. Last year I got Halladay in the 5th and Schmidt in the 8th; very nice!

If I were picking where I had any shot at Prior I would take him in a heartbeat. However, I just feel pitchers, in general are a bit too risky to take in the early rounds. I prefer hitting (as do many others at the Cafe)..... :-)

Last year I waited too long...then there was a SP run, and I was SCREWED. There is always plenty of offense, and you can always pick up decent 2-5 starters, but set a definite line in the sand (the ACE line) and no matter where you draw the line...get one of those guys!

I tend to draft hitters early and pitching late....and in a league a couple of years ago...I didn't draft any pitcher until the 8th...and still ended up with a respectible staff....but that did make WW/FA work alot harder.... :-)

I think somewhere around 4-5 is a good place to start looking for pitching....

I usually like to have a well rounded staff, so I usually always draft my ace in the 3rd round or higher. I'm sure you could come up with a decent staff if you wait longer but I like to have balance.
