Need Help...

Postby Sakrafyce » Thu Feb 19, 2004 2:45 pm

Hi guys, I need help here. I am a total n00b to fantasy baseball. I've been playing Fantasy Football for 8 years and Fantasy Basketball for 3 years. Never really had any interest in baseball. But this year I plan to get into and join my first league.

My question is: What are the most important positions in baseball? like in Football, Runningbacks are normally the money guys. Basketball, you want all around guys like Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, etc.

I have no idea where to start, i've been going over player rankings. Maybe some of ya'll can say how you draft, like you like to draft Pitcher, OF, 2nd, Pitcher or however ya'll do it.

I appreciate the help I receive. I love Fantasy sports, like a fiend and would love to be a Baseball Baller also.

in a standard 5x5 league the guys that help you out in all 5 stats are elite. Followed by guys that help you out in 4 stats, etc.

Usually you want the best hitter you can find unless a rare pitcher like Prior or Pedro is available to you from pick 6 -10 in round one.

look at this cheatsheet to get the best available players by position:

Starting Pitchers get draft high? Like top 5 normally? Who would you say is overall #1 pick in most leagues?

Football seems so much easier...heh, gonna take a while to get use to this.

Also, where would Relief Pitchers get drafted normally? Are they like Kickers/Defense in football, where you can take them in later rounds? Or they alot more important than that?

Welcome to the cafe Sakrafyce.

There is no set order in baseball as there is in football. No paticular posistion having more value than others. The best advise I could give you is to check out the mock drafts here in the cafe to get an idea of which players are going where.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

Thanks, Yeah. I went and checked out the mocks a little bit. Looks like top 3 are normally A-Rod, Albert and Alfonso. Gonna need to research. ;-D

Ya, if you're a first time fantasy player you should definently check out the mock drafts, cheat sheets and sleepers so you get a good feel for the league.
