OK I'm going to move this out of Leftovers and into the Mets forum... Theo Epstein and Omar Minaya both came out publicly and dismissed this. I guess Eddie C. got some bad info. :-b

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Although I'd like having Crisp as a backup outfielder, I can't imagine that Coco would have been too happy if that trade ever happened when he wants to get a better chance at playing time but ends up behind Carlos Beltran instead of Jacoby Ellsbury. :-D

Why would Crisp not start over Church or Chavez?

Well Chavez isn't a starter so he probably would have started in LF. He's not better than Church though and even if he was, considering the trade, that wasn't going to happen unless Church played himself out of the position.

I was assuming that Crisp wants a CF job since I haven't really read anything about Coco being willing to go anywhere for a starting OF job, seemed more like he was looking at just CF. He definitely wouldn't start in RF over Church but if he were willing to play LF again, he'd probably move ahead of Chavez. Either way, his goal is probably to end up somewhere that he can become the starter full time because when Alou is healthy, there's no question that Crisp heads to the bench. I'd rather not have a bench guy who is extremely unhappy with his role.
