Jerry Owens

I desperately need steals in one of my leagues, and I picked up Owens who had over 30 in only 300 ABs for the White Sox last year. How much playing time will he see this year? Is he worth holding in a standard yahoo league?

he's competing w/ quentin for the last OF spot. they want owens to win the job so swisher can play LF. i expect him to start opening day. but he probably wont be a full-time player right away.

Owens will probably get most of the time in CF for the Sox this year but expect him to sit against tough lefties and get pinch hit for late in games fairly often. He'll still steal plenty of bases though. He's a decent choice as a SB specialist.
Brian Anderson is having a good spring but he's just hoping to make the team.
Owens has been resting a sore groin but at this point of the preseason I expect him to start 75% of the Sox regular season games, maybe more.

i'll second pretty much all of this. they want him to win the CF job...he'd have to really screw up Spring Training to not get the job, despite the fact that Brian Anderson is hitting really well. Owens is the guy they really envision at the top of their lineup, so it seems to be his job to lose. He'll get situationally-hit for at the ends of games, but should get alot of steals. Right now his injuries and the crowded outfield in Spring Training are keeping him pretty low on the radar, so you should be able to get him cheep.
