Good info, Amazinz. I clearly need to learn more about Excel. I barely scratch the surface of what it can do. I use functions like RANK and COUNTIF and I even do some nested COUNTIF stuff and think I know things, but reallly I'm a total amateur. I have Excel for Dummies but I've never read it. Maybe I need to break down?

I checked out the web query stuff, and it turns out my Excel 2004 for Mac at home can do this stuff. Gotta learn!

Amazinz wrote:Yeah the web queries will update. You can set the behavior, like if you want it to refresh when you open the workbook or at intervals. They are really nice when you have many pages to scrape data from. If you can determine the URL sequence you can use a macro and a web query to pull a lot of data off a lot of pages in a relatively short period of time.

Hmmm, macro eh? Where might one find out some info on a macro that may do such a thing? :-)

You'll have to fine tune it for your needs but here's good (slightly outdated) real world example on Mr. Excel.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

That's a good site. Thanks for that link.

I like Excel but I know I barely scratch the surface of what it can do. I need to take some classes, man ! ! !

Here's another good site for excel:

http://www.ozgrid.com/

They have a very helpful message board on that site as well. I learned a lot through it.

Once I started playing around with it and learning what all it an do, Excel became my favorite program - instead of playing Minesweeper in Anthropology lectures I just mess with Excel now. If it were a moderately-attractive woman, I'd want to have little spreadsheet babies with it................I think I went too far.
