Help! New fantasy manager - how did I do?

Postby aharbin » Tue Mar 11, 2008 7:25 pm

Please help!! I am an avid baseball fan but completely new to the fantasy format. I just completed my draft; I think I did okay, but I would like some objective feedback. I am in a 12 team Yahoo league with the standard stats, except with OBP replacing average (OBP, HR, RBI, S, R; and W, K, SV, ERA, and WHIP). I inherited Albert Pujols as a keeper but drafted the remaining players. Any suggestions whatsoever are appreciated. Also, let me know where to go to rank your team.

C: Soto
1B: Pujols
2B: Utley
SS: Furcal
3B: Figgins
OF: Abreu (an OBP god)
OF: Bay
OF: Burrell (another OBP god)
Utility: Thome
Bench: Loney, Encarnacion

SP: Webb
SP: Hamels
RP: Rivera
RP: Corpas
P: Lackey
P: Gorzelanny
P: Soria (RP)
BN: Chamberlain, Jurjenns, Carpenter

Thanks very much for the feedback.

OBP and not OPS? Why? No AVG? Anyway...

Good stuff overall, nice balance of speed, power, etc. Great pitching except maybe on the bench. Jurrjens? Who know about Carpenter? Any reliable vets still available like El Duque, Meche or Maddux? How about a better prospect like Baker, Guthrie, Marcum or Bannister?

I think Bay is done. Loose him. I'd play Encarnacion at 3B and OF Chone. Kouzmanoff available? He hit .308 after May 10 and .301 in the minors. Play him at 3rd. Loney was agood move as insurance for Pujols' elbow. Sh*t I'd even consider starting Loney over Thome.
Good luck dude.

Mostly agree with the first response. Overall, quite solid. There is a pretty big drop off in P talent.

I disagree on dropping Bay. I picked him up as well and some projections have him performing quite well this year. Play it by ear and bench him if he sucks and drop him if he continues to suck.

Thanks guys. Since the original post, Lackey's triceps problems surfaced, so I needed to make a couple of moves to improve my pitching depth. I dropped Carpenter for Greinke and dropped Jurrjens for El Duque. Improvements on both fronts, I think. I am probably going to start the season with Encarnacion at 3B, Figgins at OF, and Bay on the bench. Bay was a good value pick in the draft, but until he proves me wrong (and I agree that he is done), he will ride the pine. I'll go check out your teams as well.
