First they sign Shannon Stewart, despite having 5 OF (Wells, Rios, Stairs, Johnson, Lind). I guess that made a bit of sense because Reed Johnson and Vernon Wells are coming off injuries, but why of all the FA's that don't have a job did JP Ricciardi decide to sign Armando Benitez?

With Brandon League's seemingly re-emergence and BJ's return, the bullpen is very good this year with a lot of depth. The last thing they needed was a pitcher who was done 3 years ago. I hope they didn't promise him anything crazy, like actually making the team. %-6

It's a minor league contract. I could understand this thread if they gave Blownitez a solid contract. This is little risk and bullpen depth is a myth. You can never have enough. Might as well throw as much crap as possible against the wall and see what sticks. :-D
