I think my first team is in trouble

Postby JRM4833 » Thu Feb 19, 2004 10:05 am

My first autopick team just got drafted and I rated pitchers way too low. What do you think?

C: Lecroy
1B: Sweeney
2B: Soriano
3B: Chavez
SS: Tejada
OF: M Ordonez
OF: Crawford
OF: Baldelli
Util: Lowell
BN: Ensberg, Floyd, Hinske and Konerko
SP: Beckett
SP: Peavy
RP: Percival
RP: Isringhausen
P: Rhodes
P: Myers
P: Kolb
BN: Harden

Do I have any shot with this team? Am I in a position to trade any positions for pitching? Damn autodraft!

You're pitching is going to get you in trouble. I'd trade one of your (4!) thirdbasemen to start with. Chavez will get you the most return, and it looks like Ensberg could be a stud. I think that's a decent place to start. You do have a couple pitchers though, that could be real nice. Harden could be in for a good year. Myers has a full season under his belt.

Yeah, I was looking at Chavez too. Im not all that confident in him as it is. Does anybody know what his worth is? By the way, here is a link if interested:

In addition to the comments already made, I would drop Konerko (or try to do some 2 for 1 deals to free up roster space) and pick up Armas Jr., Meche, A.J. Burnett, Eric Milton or Rodrigo Lopez. You might trade away one closer for a SP too (I saw at least 4 available on the waiver wire that you could potentially pick up for free, Chacon, Julio, Speier, Biddle). Also, Maddux will eventually become available to pick up if you pay close attention and have a high enough waiver priority.

Another thing that will strengthen your SP stats is just to avoid starting your more average pitchers when they are pitching against generally high-scoring teams.

Thats an incredible team. Great draft.

Trade Chavez for an ace, other than that, you are stacked!

Thanks alot, very encouraging to hear. I guess I was undervaluing guys even though I had put them somewhat high on my prerankings. My draft priority is 8. Am I better off letting other teams go through the waiver wire and then try to pick up one or two of those pitchers so I can move up in priority? Also the trade talks have begun and one team is looking for RP. Im going to see where that goes but hes looking to trade Thome or Delgado which isnt a big need for my team (I think). Thanks for the advice

I think you may need an upgrade at C and SP, but 3B looks solid

Great offense and solid closers. As stated above if you can trade for a couple pitchers you should have a strong team.
