Median Draft Position (MDP) Report - Updated 3/29/08

Postby rookies and cream » Sun Mar 09, 2008 1:57 am

This is a compilation of ADP's from various sites. At the present time, I have ADP's from ESPN, CBS, MDC, Couch Managers, and Fantasy Gameday. If you know of any more, please let me know. I will soon be adding Yahoo and FOX and NFBC when they come out. I decided to compile median draft position (MDP) instead of ADP due to the significant variability between sites (median is less affected by outliers than average). For example, Scott Kazmir had an ADP as high as 50.5 (CM's) and as low as 96.5 (ESPN). While I have him ranked 71 according to MDP, his rank would have been in the high 70's had I used ADP.

Here is Version 1.0 of the MDP report. I will continue to update it throughout spring training. Future reports will have rankings up to about 250.

Edit: Most recent MDP report (3/20/08) on pg. 9

Nice job Rooks. When will it be finished?

Also, Yahoo has a very craptastic ADP list. :-D

Yeah. I'll add yahoo right now and include it in the next report. I only went up to 100 this time because it requires continuous updating. I'll probably be updating it every weekend. Next weekend's report will be more comprehensive for sure. ;-D

Awesome! I've done something similar in previous years, so I know how much work it is. Any chance you can do a BIG list (I'm in a 16 team league). I'm willing to help out.

Am I wrong in thinking that these are most helpful if you are in public leagues? Thats where most of this data comes from isn't it? It doesn't seem like it would be much help for more competitive leagues. Either way, nice resource to have. Thanks for putting it together RaC! ;-D

How "big" are we talking? Once we get further into drafting season, I'll probably go up to about 250-300. Honestly, I don't think it really matters how high you go up. Once you get past 200 or so, ADP/MDP is so variable that a compilation such as this is not so informative.

While I think that you're probably right that these types of reports are most helpful in public leagues, I do think they have a role in competitive leagues in approximating when players might be drafted. I used it in my competitive leagues last year with great success.
