Minor Leaguers Close to Being Helpful

Postby Jihan1 » Thu Mar 06, 2008 11:30 am

My H2H points league drafts 2 minor leaguers each year. It helps to get players who can rotate into action within at least a year, so we generally don't draft players several years away from the Bigs. (And all the "close" big names are long gone.) In our second round now and I'm looking at a few options. I'd appreciate hearing what you guys think about these:
JR Towles -- I already have Salty, so he'd just be insurance if Salty craters.
Hiroke Kuroda
Jo-Jo Reyes -- Just read about him and was intrigued.
Kosuke Fukudome -- looks to be average-to-uninspiring as a outfielder
Gio Gonzalez
Johnny Cueto -- Lots of love from the folks at Sickels' site
Matt LaPorta -- good upside, but would he contribute as early as next year?
Lars Anderson -- good upside, but would he contribute as early as next year?
...or any others you might suggest

Thanks, guys!

Towels and Fukodome help you the most now but Cueto is great and should be up sometime this year. I would go Cueto #1 unless your only looking for help this year, than most likely fukodome but Cueto will also help (just less).

id go with gio or cueto... both should be up this year and be great pitchers... i honestly think gio will be up first

and another good choice is laporta... in the few games he played in rookie leagues and single a, he hit 12 hr (in 20 games)... he should be on the fast track this year and will most likely end up in AAA by the end of the year. im expecting him to be up next year

Fukudome or Kuroda. The only other guy I see with a chance for steady time would be Towles, and Slaty might no be the sure thing everyone thinks. I read that if he doesn't win the starting C job he'll go down to the minors, not start at 1B

I ended up with Cueto and am pretty happy with him. Gio was picked a couple of spots before me. I'll be keeping my eye on LaPorta, though. If towards the end of the year he looks to be doing well in AAA, I can pick him up as a free agent and sign him for the following 3 years.
