Ramirez is old enough that perhaps the minors, to start the season, isn't a need for him. He has a career history that is very promising...over .300 BA and some pop in the bat. I think the CWS would be wise to keep him and use him often.

I'd rather snag Alexei. I think Cabrera's a little overrated because of his playoff performance last year.

I would definitely much rather take a chance on Alexei than Asdrubal.

Listening to the Sox/Rockies game today on 670 The Score out of Chicago, and the station reported that the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Kenny Williams announced that Uribe had won the competition at 2B, and that Alexei Ramirez would back him up at that spot (and i assume, be able to sub elsewhere as well). It seems like they would be better off getting Alexei more consistent work at 2B in the minors if that's where they envision him in the future, but his strong spring, and i guess his previous experience in Cuba perhaps convinced them that he didn't need the at-bats at a lower level. As a Sox fan, this sucks, as i was hopeful that i would never have to watch Uribe flail away at the plate again....ahh well.

Ozzie said Uribe's on a short leash, though, so you won't have to watch him flail long if he does start flailing.

IF he starts flailing? The only thing he does at the plate is flail. I like the idea of him being on a short leash, as it seems to have got him come to camp in good shape, and to be playing really well, but all that aside, it's not his defense that's the problem. It's that terrible bat. I hope that short leash applies not only to him potentially dogging it in the field (as he did at times last year), but also to a general lack of production at the plate. We shall see.

he's starting in CF today against the brewers, and he just hit a grand slam down the left field line. It won't make him the starter over Uribe, but if he can hit at the major league level, it seems like a matter of time, because there is just no way Uribe is going to hit...it would have happened earlier than now if it was going to. Of course, the question is how badly Uribe would have to slump for them to insert Ramirez... :-?

Alexei Ramirez hit a grand slam Cuban quadrangular today.

Bases loaded, 2 outs. First pitch, gone.

Alexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 and hit a grand slam off Ben Sheets in Wednesday's loss.

Ramirez hit ninth today, but it appears as though he'll spend a time leading off and playing center field while Jerry Owens misses the start of the year. He's batting .355/.373/.597 in 62 at-bats.
