Saltalamacchia's Future?

Postby roninmedia » Wed Mar 05, 2008 1:41 pm

At the moment, Saltalamacchia has great power at the catcher's position and we believe Saltalamacchia will get the starting nod. However, with Texas, we have Gerald Laird blocking the plate because of his better throwing arm and his experience with handling a major league staff. However, because of his better offensive skillset, I believe Texas will be getting him into the game as a first baseman in additional to many at-bats when he's behind the plate. The question is, do you see the Rangers putting Saltamacchia into a position such as Victor Martinez when he qualifies each year at C and 1B or because of his plus power and defensive questions, do you see Saltalamacchia in the future making a permanent move to 1B (A point of interest to me since I have Matt Wieters on my minor league roster)?
